What is Is it Canadian?
The goal of Is it Canadian? is to make it easier for Canadians to make informed choices at the grocery store and help support local businesses by promoting Canadian-made products.
By choosing to buy Canadian products, you’re contributing to the growth of Canada’s industries, communities and economy.
The app is currently available in beta for iOS with an Android version coming soon. Both platforms share the same database.
How to use
- Install and launch the app;
- Click on the camera button at the bottom of the screen;
- Point the camera to a product’s barcode to scan it;
- Is it Canadian? See what others have said.
How it works
The app’s database is not operated by a central entity; it’s maintained by the community, or in other words: you, the user. If you’re the first user to scan a specific barcode, the product won’t be in the database and you will be asked if you wish to add it. From there, you will be able to enter the product’s information and declare if it’s Canadian looking at the product’s label.
If the product was already scanned and added to the database by another user, you will get the product details and you will see if previous users declared it as Canadian. Not only you will see this information but you will be able to vote if you agree or disagree.
